Got a Minute? Skydiving Class

Hi, friends in exile, got a minute?

Imagine yourself in skydiving class. A veteran of over 4,000 free falls describes the sensation of dropping through the air with the ground far below. He shows you how to work the parachute and how to maneuver yourself so that you land on target. Then, he takes everyone out to the airfield, where you practice jumping off a training tower. Finally, the day comes for your jump.  You have packed your parachute carefully. The plane reaches the right altitude, and the instructor turns to all and says, “Do you believe that you are ready for this jump?” All nod in agreement. “Will your parachute carry you safely to the ground?” Everyone nods again. At that very moment, the door pops open. The instructor turns to you and shouts, “Then jump!”

This is where faith becomes more than mere belief. After the truth about God and ourselves has been received, after hearing from reliable witnesses, after becoming convinced the Jesus story is true, then there is only one thing left to do: jump! Hebrews 11:1 says, “Faith is the realization of what we hope for.”
